Interview with Mike Pucciarelli of Sworn Enemy
If you are a fan of heavy music, chances are you've heard Sworn Enemy. If you haven't heard them but feel like putting your face through a brick wall, might i suggest checking out their latest album "Gamechanger". Sworn Enemy bassist and all round solid dude, Mike Pucciarelli answered a few lockdown questions.
You joined Sworn Enemy in 2012-ish. How did that come about?
I was on Tour with Biohazard and the drummer of SE played in a band with Billy from Biohazard called Suicide City and we went over to say what’s up and he told me that the bass player was leaving and would I be interested, the rest is history.
If you were to introduce extraterrestrials to music using just five records, what do you choose?
Kiss Destroyer, Black Sabbath Vol 4, Ramones Rocket to Russia, Iron maiden Number of the Beast, AC/DC If you want Blood, not gonna lie that was a tuff question.
Other than touring (when quarantine ends) and writing music, with SE, what else keeps you busy?
I play Ice Hockey on 2 teams going to see the New York Rangers and the New York Mets, snowboarding , going to the beach with my wife and my dog ,riding my Harley.
Are there any bands or artists past or present that you wish received more recognition?
It might sound crazy but I think Biohazard don’t get the recognition they deserve and its not because they are my brothers but they were a band that changed the game for a period of time in music, they brought something that we never seen before and I feel sometimes it gets over looked.
The latest album, "Gamechanger" kicked my ass. A lot of bands that have been doing it for as long, if not longer fall off or lose steam but you guys are still so relentless. How hard is it to keep it up, or does it come naturally?
I gotta give it up to the Guys Sal, Jeff, Matt, and Taykwuan they dug down deep on this one putting in some long nights brining in riffs and words, Taking a lot of influences from what is going on today in the world and feeling it come out on this album, and didn’t hurt that we had Robb Flynn, and Zack Ohren guiding us in the right direction.
I'd ask what there was coming up n the near future for you, but no-one really knows so instead, if there is one song you wish you wrote, what would it be and why?
Wow that’s a tuff one too!! A day in a life by the Beatles its so simple but genius at the same time a I can listen to that over and over, not to mention the Royalties would be Insane!! Peace and Love!!
